Glossary

Climate: the weather that is found in a particular place over time

Equator: an imaginary line drawn around the earth that is the same distance from the north pole as it is from the south pole

Ethic Group: people who share culture or nationality

Geography: the physical characteristics of an area

Human-Environment Interaction: the ways that geography, climate, animal life, and plant life affect human life, and vice versa

Latitude: a measure of the distance north or south from the equator

Longitude: a measure of the distance east or west from the Prime Meridian

Precipitation: rain and snow

Prime Meridian: an imaginary line that runs from the north pole to the south pole and runs through Greenwich, England. Used as a reference point for measuring longitude.

Raw Materials: unprocessed material that is found in or on the earth and that can be used to make things

Region: a large area that shares similar geography, climate, or culture
